If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours..
-Henry David Thoreau

When I write the story of my life, I wish to sculpt the words to perfection, so that every word is a fulfilling resolution to the word before it, every syllable sets the stage for the syllable to follow. My loves will be queens and goddesses and creatures exquisite. My enemies will be demons and destroyers of worlds. My adventures will be vast, epic journeys, my heartbreaks tragedies, and my joys a concise description of heaven.

May my life be worthy of such writing.

NEW - Kayak Stories
I have compiled and aggregated my kayak stories into one place. I tried to put them in reverse chronological order, though I didn’t spend a lot of time dating the ones I wrote a while ago. Enjoy!

Cold Water Rescue Training: This is the training that resulted from my cold water misadventure.

Adam’s Cold Water (mis)Adventure: Spending some unintentional time in the frozen Hudson

One Windy Night: Reid and Adam fight the elements.

Circumnavigation: My first circumnavigation of Manhattan in a kayak.

Warren’s War Games: This may or may not be funny if you weren’t there. Take a chance.

White Water Fun: Adam’s vacation to the Poconos.

Learning to Roll: How I learned to do an Eskimo roll.

My First Cold Water Paddle: I never did become a fan of this.

Statue of Liberty: This is the story of my first trip to the Statue.

Learn to Surf: A fun tale of early skill-building.

My First Kayak Trip: I guess this is kind of where it began.

Everything Else

NEW My trip to London - A little out of order, but this is something I wrote about my first trip to London in December.

Climbing the Gunks - My first time climbing rocks in nature. I'm so outdoorsy.

My Old Blog - This is the blog I kept while I was working as a cook, then moved to NYC. It's a few years old, I'm just giving it a new home here.

Adam on Death - Not as maudlin as it sounds.

Night of the Rat - Not for the faint of heart. Or those who want their stories to make sense.

The Secret Origin of Watch Chick - A story of new beginnings and incredible bargains.

The Sublet - This one has it all, heroism, drunken antics, mystery. Just no suspense.

Death and Sushi - I'm still afraid to eat at this place.

The Bad Exam - This wasn't my worst day at the doctor's office, but it wasn't a good one.

Not a Bad Day - Kind of says it all, don't it?

No Angry Darts - Another true story from the city that doesn't get enough sleep. My adventures with darts and vodka. This one doesn't end with a puncture wound. If only they were all so lucky.

Brutal Massage - Sometimes a free massage is worth every penny.

Hotness in the Sauna - I'm putting this one up against my better judgement, but I've recieved requests from people who recieved the email. It doesn't paint me in a very good light. But then, after 33 years I haven't found my good light yet.

Cold Night - I wrote this a year ago, but it is just as true today as it was then. (March 2005)

Mission Statement - if you were to skip one, this might be the one to skip...

The News From Times Square - This is a little something I wrote to document life in Times Square just before New Years.

Who is Adam? - On some level you must care, mustn't you?

Cooking with Chef Tibor - I managed to get my favorite chef to put together a little recipe just for my site. Bon Appetite!

The DMV - At last, a strategy for dealing with the evil DMV.

The Boat Story - This is the completely factual account of the first time my buddy and I took his new boat out on the river. I wrote it to cheer up his wife, but now it belongs to the world.

The Bad List - I was trying to find a cool domain. This is a list of .coms that are, inexplicably, taken.

Samurai Britney - This is something I recovered from when I worked at AOL. It's a story about Britney Spears, Samurai warrior.

The Cougar Story - I wrote this one for the free newspapers in Philly when I used to live there. No one picked it up. I guess they didn't get it. The funny thing is that it is all true.

I Love Britney - Okay, this is a little wierd. When I worked at AOL, I was friends with the guy who ran the homepages area. Everytime they launched a new template, I'd bang on it a little to see if it would break. This meant creating some wierd home pages. This is one that still seems to exist.
